What is Search Engine Optimization? What's the different from Search Engine Ranking? Is SEO a thing when my site get #1 on Google?
Many people confused between Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Ranking. They're two different things. When you say "#1 on Google", then it's probably Search Engine Ranking, not Search Engine Optimization. There's many factors that determine whether your website/page deserve on top list or not.
So, Search Engine Optimization is a different thing, but SEO is a factor that help your site to get a high ranking on search engine.
First, I'll explain what Search Engine Ranking is. Search engine ranking refers to the position at which a particular site appears in the results of a search engine query. Let say you type "superman" on the search bar, then search engine will give you list of results. The top most result are ranked the best. The result list show you the best result to the worse based on your keywords. A site is said to have a high ranking when it appears at or near the top of the list of results.
Now let's talk about SEO. Wikipedia said, Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of affecting the visibility of a website or a web page in a web search engine's unpaid results—often referred to as "natural", "organic", or "earned" results. Basicaly, SEO is an effort to assist search engine read your website, page, image, or any digital content on the internet.
There's many things you need to consider to optimize your digital content for search engine. Do your keywords match with your content? Do you use proper styles for your content? Do your title match with your content? Do you give a proper tag for your content? And many other factors.
